Journalistic Standards and Ethics
Members agreement
The Kiosk exists to support and to interconnect independent media. In a world where the message is so often controlled by media conglomerates often owned by billionaires, the growth and vitality of alternative, fact-based, and critical voices is more essential than ever.
Financial Independence
Our coalition brings together individual journalists or media platforms who rely on independent funding sources, who are not part of big media conglomerates and do not benefit from the support of billionaires, well-funded think tanks or political lobbying organizations.
Independence of thought
The Kiosk Independent Media Coalition promotes journalists and platforms whose voices are diverse and independent and who are able to freely follow their own opinions without being subject to external control or mind numbing groupthink.
The issues
We welcome members who are working from diverse points of views on issues of broad concern socially, economically and politically. This may include any of a wide range of topics, including the environment, militarism, empire, state violence, colonialism, immigration, speciesism, racism, inequality, social justice, crime, corruption and class based analysis.
Free Speech
Coalition members share a core appreciation for the principle of free speech and a recognition that censorship and self-censorship are enemies of critical thinking and free journalism. They understand and agree with the premise that free speech means being able to respectfully tolerate speech with which one disagrees.
Journalism standards and ethics
We value and seek journalists who are focused on the issues and who favor factual and sourced presentations over ideological sloganeering. We welcome members who value reasoned argument over buzzwords or ad-hominem attacks.
